Amy Heckerling’s 1982 coming-of-age comedy, written by Cameron Crowe, turns 35 this weekend. The film was reportedly the result of Crowe going “undercover” to study the high school experience. What came of that “study” was a rollicking, fun-loving movie that took on an iconic status over the years. The film holds a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and in 2007 was nominated for AFI’s “100 Years…100 Movies.” The colorful ensemble delivers laughs throughout “Fast Times” 90-minute running time. So, do you wonder what those actors have been up to? Here, we check in on them.
Like Penn, Cage, and Leigh, Whitaker went on to have a successful onscreen career. At 56, Whitaker, who plays star football player Charles Jefferson in ‘Fast Times,’ has compiled a long list of credits. These include the Academy Award-winning role as Idi Amin in 2006’s ‘The Last King of Scotland.’ Other projects include: ‘Bird,’ ‘Platoon,’ ‘The Way of the Samurai,’ ‘The Butler’ and his role as Jon Kavanaugh on ‘The Shield.’ In 2016, he appeared in the mini-series ‘Roots’ and was Saw Gerrera in the smash hit ‘Star Wars’ film ‘Rogue One.’ He’ll also enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2018’s ‘Black Panther.’
